Week 1 is all about community. We stated the week with a group peer to peer description of artworks from the Baltimore Museum of Art. The goal here is to get students comfortable with art criticism. Description is one of the first steps to really analyzing a piece of art. On Tuesday we made identity flags (you can see them hanging in the images below). On Wednesday we went over the syllabus and did an assessment on writing about art. On Thursday a parent survey went home (it is due back on 9/8) and we began our portrait pre-assessment, which was completed on Friday. Our portrait pre-assessment will be used as a big part of our grade when we do our portrait unit because students will be graded on growth.
Grading this week included daily grades for "do nows", classroom participation grades, grades for completing pre-assessments.
Students should check Blackboard (when it is back up and running) to be sure they have been given credit for days they have an excused absence for scheduling changes.
We are off to a great start of the school year!
